WAKEFIELD — A resident of Saugus won $1 million on a lottery ticket sold in town.
Jack Rizzari purchased his $50 ticket in the state lottery’s Billion Dollar Extravaganza instant ticket game at Carousel Variety on Water Street. Rizzari opted to receive his prize as a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes rather than an annual payment of $50,000 for 20 years. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Rizzari is the ninth $1 million winner in the Billion Dollar Extravaganza game, which has the highest payout percentage of any game ever offered by the Mass Lottery at 82%. Still, the odds of winning $1 million are just 1 in 2,016,000, according to the lottery.
The game’s top prize is $25 million, and all three available tickets containing the top sum have been sold. Four $2 million tickets remain, and six $1 million tickets are still on shelves.
The Billion Dollar Extravaganza game is the lottery’s first $50 ticket, and was launched this year. To win, players must match one of 35 scratchable numbers to six winning numbers. If they uncover a 5X, 10X, 20X, 50X, or 100X symbol, their prize will be increased by 5, 10, 20, 50, or 100 times. Players can also win bonuses of $100, $500, or $1,000.
