If you’re looking for a self-improvement project as a New Year’s resolution or any other reason, the Lynn Community Enrichment Program has something for you.
Registration is now open for the LCEP’s winter session. The organization is offering adult classes (18 and over) for educational and enrichment opportunities in Lynn.
LCEP coordinator and Lynn Councilor-at-Large Nicole McClain said the goal is to help residents of the North Shore improve their skills, advance in their careers, or simply have fun learning something new.
The sessions are six weeks long, with classes occurring once a week, either on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. McClain said this schedule offers needed flexibility to busy families.
McClain said classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and are designed to be a convenient time for working adults.
The Lynn Community Enrichment Program began in 2015 as a way to use the resources available at Lynn Vocational Technical Institute.
The program was founded in cooperation between the New Lynn Coalition and the Lynn Public Schools. LCEP has received additional funding, which helps keep the costs low. The $65 tuition goes to recruit teachers and materials needed to successfully instruct students.
McClain said this is a nonprofit venture designed to be affordable and fun.
Classes include Spanish, computer applications, Yoga, and English as a second language (this winter).
“This has the potential to do even more for our adult population,” McClain said. “And not just in Lynn, but the Lynn area. It can further careers and enrich learning.”
She said the computer classes start right at the beginning for those who don’t know how to use one, including how to send emails and type in various word-processing programs such as Microsoft Word.
“This is all very important in life at this point,” McClain said. “It can help the workforce development, or it could simply be fun.”
“I’m excited about the program and to be able to help the community in any way,” she added.
The courses begin on Feb. 20 and end the last week of March.
