You know what I’ve been thinking? This hockey player shoots as hard as anyone on the North Shore – boys or girls.

St. Mary’s girls hockey team traveled to take on Bishop Fenwick Saturday at a packed Essex Sports Center in Middleton. The final score favored the Spartans, 8-0, but it’s a tad deceiving.

Fenwick trailed just 2-0 after the first period. You could’ve argued that momentum favored the Crusaders, too, as goalie Ella Tucker had Fenwick’s crowd fired up with 18 saves in the frame.

That was, until St. Mary’s freshman Isabella Freitas decided to do something about it.

The right-handed sniper – in her first career game, no less – scored in the second period after stealing the puck, racing to the offensive end, and sniping one past Tucker on a delayed breakaway move.

And just four minutes into the third period, Freitas added two more goals to put a lid on it.

Game one between these rivals went to the Spartans.

Coach Frank Pagliuca was more than impressed with his freshman, calling her a “dynamic player” who plays with a “very high” pace.

I’d have to agree.
