You know what I’ve been thinking? We expected the girls hockey Spartans to play with an edge after losing in the championship (Shrewsbury upset St. Mary’s 4-1 in March), but they’ve taken it up a notch.
St. Mary’s upped its record to 5-0 after Saturday’s dominant performance against Lincoln-Sudbury at Connery Rink. Usual suspects in Kasey Litwin, Keira Twomey, and Bella Freitas scored the goals, while Gianna Tringale – to no one’s surprise – registered a shutout between the pipes.
On top of the Lincoln-Sudbury win, St. Mary’s bested a tough Notre Dame (Hingham) team, 2-0, this week. Litwin and Alyssa Norden potted the two goals; Megan Donato delivered the clean sheet.
There was resilience, too. The Spartans (5-0-1) trailed Pope Francis 5-1 in the third period on Wednesday, but stormed back to tie the game, courtesy of Vanessa Hall’s two goals.
Another strong week later from Freitas, Hall, Litwin, and the rest of the Spartans – you’ve got yourself one of the state’s top contenders.
Spartans, good week.
